Medical tourism drives 2,000 million peso investment in Chihuahua

Medical tourism is driving significant investment in Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez, with total related investments estimated to exceed 2,000 million pesos. This economic phenomenon is expanding beyond medical clinics to stimulate sectors such as construction, hospitality, gastronomy, transportation, and real estate.

In Chihuahua capital, approximately 15,200 medical tourism patients were treated in 2024, generating an estimated economic impact of 660 million pesos. The market is divided into two main segments: border medical tourism, involving patients from the United States for short-term outpatient procedures lasting between 8 and 72 hours, and more complex procedures that require stays of 3 to 10 days or longer.

Specific infrastructure projects highlight this growth, such as the Hospital Ángeles Chihuahua’s Torre de Consultorios II, which represents a 550 million peso investment featuring 13,400 square meters of space and eight operating rooms.
