Municipalities in Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru implement public works
Various municipal and regional authorities across Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru are implementing infrastructure and public service projects.
In Tijuana, Mexico, the Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Tijuana (CESPT) is rehabilitating wastewater pumping plants PB1-A and PB1-B. This project, supported by NADBank and the US EPA, aims to improve sanitation for over one million residents and is part of a binational agreement to manage transboundary water flows.
In Managua, Nicaragua, the Barrio 18 de Mayo has reached 85% road paving coverage following the completion of eight new streets under the ‘Calles para el Pueblo’ program.
In Mexico, several local initiatives are underway: a movement in Ciudad Juárez is collecting over 63,000 signatures to seek the recall of Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar; Saltillo is planning increased fines for drunk driving by 2027; and various water and sanitation agencies (JMAS, COMAPA, Ceabien) are addressing water supply and sewage issues in several regions.
In Peru, the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation successfully recovered over 4,800 square meters of state land in Talara that had been illegally occupied.
