Ciudad Juárez sees 45% rise in suicide-attempt rescues

The fire department in Ciudad Juárez reported a 45 % increase in rescues of suicide attempts during the second quarter of 2026, rising from 44 cases in the first three months to 64 in the next three. Monthly figures show 16 attempts in January and February, 12 in March, 17 in April, a peak of 30 in May, and 17 in June.

On 17 June, two men aged 24 and 25 died in incidents classified as suicides at separate locations in the city. A 25‑year‑old woman was also found deceased after being taken to a clinic. The state health secretariat recorded 476 suicide deaths in Chihuahua in 2025, with 117 in Ciudad Juárez, while 2026 figures up to May show 183 deaths statewide and 48 in the border city. Despite the rise in rescue calls, the city’s suicide rate fell 12.7 % compared with the previous year, reflecting a broader state‑wide decline reported by the Instituto Chihuahuense de Salud Mental.
