Ciudad Juárez sees record foreign student enrollment
Foreign children and adolescents have reached a record enrollment in basic education in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, for the 2026-2027 school year. According to data from the Chihuahua State Educational Services (SEECH), 630 non-U.S. foreign students enrolled in preschool, primary, and secondary levels.
This figure represents a significant increase compared to previous cycles, which saw 341, 313, and 355 foreign students enrolled in the preceding years. While specific nationalities for the current cycle have not been released, previous data indicated that most students originated from Venezuela, Honduras, Colombia, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
The surge in enrollment is linked to the closure of United States borders to asylum seekers following the start of the Donald Trump administration on January 20, 2025, which has caused many migrant families to remain in Ciudad Juárez.
