Ciudad Juárez treated 52 million cubic meters of water in early 2026

The Junta Municipal de Agua y Saneamiento de Juárez (JMAS) reported that between January and July 2026, its treatment plants processed a total of 52,080,382 cubic meters of water. This initiative aims to strengthen the reuse of water resources in the desert region.

Karina Cruz, Head of Sanitation at JMAS, stated that the city operates seven treatment plants governed by Conagua standards, specifically NOM 001 and NOM 003, depending on the intended use of the treated water. Due to infrastructure growth and high administration volumes, Ciudad Juárez ranks among the top five cities in Mexico for water reuse.

The largest facilities include the Sur Plant (2,000 liters per second), the Norte Plant (1,600 liters per second), and Valle de Juárez (500 liters per second). Smaller capacity plants include Anapra, Parque Central, Villa Hermosa, and Laguna de Patos. Officials noted that every liter of treated water used represents a liter of potable water saved.
