Cantabrian-Mediterranean Corridor: Four regions demand double-track rail

Four Spanish autonomous communities—Aragón, Castilla y León, Cantabria, and the Valencian Community—have signed the ‘Declaration of Teruel’ to demand significant improvements to the Cantabrian-Mediterranean railway corridor.

The signatories are calling on the central government to abandon plans for a single-track line, which they argue limits the strategic potential of the connection between the Mediterranean and Cantabrian ports. Instead, they demand a high-capacity infrastructure featuring double tracks and international gauge to accommodate both passenger and freight traffic.

In addition to the corridor demands, leaders highlighted the necessity of the Soria-Castejón railway connection for the development of the Spanish interior. The regional presidents also criticized current planning efforts, specifically requesting the withdrawal of existing studies for the Sagunto-Teruel section in favor of more ambitious designs.
