Ciudad Real commerce workers protest for new collective agreement
Workers and unions CCOO and UGT have launched protests in Ciudad Real to demand a new collective agreement for the commerce sector. The mobilization affects approximately 10,000 employees who are currently facing a deadlock in negotiations.
Union representatives argue that while the sector has seen a 32% increase in turnover, workers are struggling with stagnant wages that fail to keep pace with local inflation. CCOO General Secretary Esther Serrano stated that workers need significant raises to maintain purchasing power against a 5.9% rise in local prices. The unions are calling for improvements in salaries, job stability, and occupational health, warning of a general strike on November 11 if demands are not met.
