Ciudad Real reports record rural tourism and hospitality employment

The province of Ciudad Real has reported significant growth in its tourism sector during 2026. Between January and July, rural tourism establishments recorded 24,871 travelers and 47,738 overnight stays, marking the second-best historical figure for this period. The average length of stay increased by 0.22% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching nearly two days.

Employment within the hospitality sector has also reached historic highs. Between January and August, the average number of social security contributors in hospitality reached 12,105, the highest recorded for this period in the province's history. This represents a 2.6% increase from the previous year and a 31.2% increase compared to 2015 levels. Notably, four of the five highest historical employment records for the sector in Ciudad Real occurred between May and August 2026, with peaks in July (12,746 affiliates) and August (12,705 affiliates).

Patricia Franco, the Minister of Economy, Business, and Employment, noted during a visit to Villanueva de los Infantes that Castilla-La Mancha is consolidating its position as a major destination for inland tourism in Spain. The region ranks fourth nationally in the growth of social security affiliations for tourism activities.
