Ciudad Universitaria 2 installs ARCA Virtual radiotherapy simulator

Ciudad Universitaria 2 (CU2) has implemented the Virtual Radiotherapy and Advanced Training Classroom (ARCA Virtual), a state-of-the-art simulator for radiotherapy instruction. Utilizing the VERT (Virtual Environment for Radiotherapy Training) software, the system functions as a virtual reality clinical linear accelerator simulator.

Considered unique in Mexico and Latin America, the equipment provides a high-fidelity, safe learning environment for health and medical physics students. The technology allows users to visualize patient anatomy and manage radiotherapy plans for conditions such as cancer or cerebral neuralgia using a detailed 3D simulator of a linear accelerator typically found in tertiary hospitals.

Responsible for the team, Eva Medel Báez, noted that the system includes X-ray and radiotherapy dosimetry detectors, an instruction room, and humanoid mannequins. The acquisition of this technology was made possible through a technical cooperation project with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
