Ciudad Victoria authorities issue gas safety warnings following leak
Following a gas leak in the Ampliación Libertad neighborhood of Ciudad Victoria, local authorities have issued safety recommendations regarding LP gas cylinders. The leak, caused by a ruptured hose on a transport tanker, required firefighters and Civil Protection to close several roads near the intersection of Las Américas Avenue and Mexico Street to prevent fire or explosion risks.
Juan Carlos Martínez Martínez, an inspector for Civil Protection, advised residents and business owners to replace LP gas cylinders that are more than 12 years old to reduce the risk of leaks and explosions. He recommended checking the manufacturing date located on the valve protector and cautioned against purchasing used or repainted cylinders from street markets, noting that some may use fraudulent metal plates to hide their age.
During inspections, officials use detectors to identify leaks in connections. If a leak is detected, the supply is immediately shut off. While inspections are primarily conducted in commercial establishments, Martínez noted that fires and explosions are often linked to non-compliance with official safety standards.
