Ciudad Victoria faces 14 million peso budget cut
Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, has experienced a reduction of 14 million pesos in federal participations over a two-month period. According to municipal treasurer María Guadalupe de los Reyes Acosta, the city saw a 9-million-peso decrease in July, followed by an additional 5-million-peso drop in August.
This budgetary adjustment has forced the local government to reduce spending on municipal supplies, including cleaning products and office stationery, and has led to the suspension of certain extraordinary support programs. The treasury noted that these participations are subject to federal calculations involving variables such as population, which currently disadvantage the capital.
Mayor Eduardo Gattás Báez is reportedly promoting the creation of a Capitality Fund to secure additional resources for the city's infrastructure and service needs, as current local revenue from property taxes and licenses remains insufficient.
