Ciudad Victoria faces risks from heavy rainfall and flooding

Heavy rainfall in Ciudad Victoria and surrounding regions has highlighted significant safety risks and past tragedies. While the rains are essential for agricultural production, they have caused critical incidents in the municipality.

In a past tragedy on the inter-ejidal highway in Ciudad Victoria, a 14-year-old boy and his parents drowned after the teenager was swept away by a whirlpool in a flooded area. Additionally, the Estudiante Avenue ford has become a dangerous site where strong currents have knocked people down, leading to injuries and loss of personal property.

The current weather patterns also recall the 2019 floods in Reynosa, where a containment wall in the Paseo de las Flores neighborhood reportedly diverted water from one sector to flood another, requiring the use of six pumps to manage the excess liquid.
