Tamaulipas electoral authorities begin preparations for 2027 elections
Preparations for the 2026-2027 electoral process in Tamaulipas are advancing. The National Electoral Institute (INE) has formally installed its Local Council in the state to oversee federal operations. Simultaneously, the Tamaulipas State Electoral Institute (IETAM) has begun the technical phase of designing electoral ballots and documentation. Political parties have met deadlines to submit their emblems and necessary information, including the party Somos México, which will use a new emblem approved by the INE.
Political figures in the region are defining their roles ahead of the elections. Eduardo Gattás Báez, Mayor of Ciudad Victoria, has requested an 89-day leave of absence, with Ernesto Avalos Bustos serving as interim mayor. Meanwhile, Carmen Lilia Canturosas Villarreal, Mayor of Nuevo Laredo, has ruled out seeking a federal deputy position, focusing instead on her administration's results.
Government officials, including Secretary General of Government Héctor Joel Villegas González and Subsecretary Tomás Gloria Requena, have emphasized that conditions in Tamaulipas are secure for the upcoming electoral cycle and have denied personal political aspirations for 2027.
