Ciudad Victoria remains in water red alert status

Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, remains under a ‘red alert’ status due to a significant water supply deficit. The Municipal Commission of Potable Water and Sewerage (Comapa) is implementing extended water rationing (tandeo) to manage the shortage.

Fernando García Fuentes, general manager of Comapa, reported that the city receives approximately 1,700 liters per second. While 900 liters come from the Vicente Guerrero dam, the La Peñita springs are currently providing only 350 liters per second, despite a capacity of 800 liters per second. This creates a deficit of roughly 350 liters per second, primarily affecting the northern sector.

Authorities have warned of potential fines ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 pesos for those found wasting water. Monitoring is being increased at car washes to ensure compliance with water-saving measures. Currently, 290 neighborhoods receive daily service for certain hours, while hundreds of others are subject to various rationing schedules or truck deliveries.
