Civic movements and political groups hold local governance debates in Italy

Local political and civic organizations in Italy are hosting discussions focused on the role of civic engagement in regional development and governance.

In Sassari, the Movimento Civico Orizzonte Comune is organizing an event titled “Il contributo del civismo alle strategie di sviluppo” (The contribution of civicism to development strategies). The meeting aims to discuss how civic experiences can shape local development policies and encourage participation among younger generations. The event will feature local administrators and will be chaired by Franco Cuccureddu, the regional coordinator of Orizzonte Comune.

In Ragusa, the political group Italia Viva participated in a debate organized by Ragusa Prossima titled “Civismo e partiti. Le sfide della Democrazia” (Civicism and parties. The challenges of Democracy). Filippo Angelica, the city coordinator for Italia Viva, emphasized the need for integration between traditional political parties and civic movements to rebuild trust with citizens and create new governance alternatives for the city.
