Civil Defense agencies in Rio de Janeiro conduct emergency drills

Civil Defense agencies in the Rio de Janeiro region have conducted emergency simulation exercises to prepare for extreme weather events.

In Belford Roxo, authorities held a drill in the Parque São José neighborhood focused on flooding scenarios. The exercise aimed to test evacuation routes, strengthen community mobilization, and instruct residents on emergency procedures. Participants practiced relocating to a designated support point at the Malvino José Miranda Municipal School.

In Duque de Caxias, an operational simulation was conducted to test protocols related to El Niño-driven climate phenomena. The drill involved state and federal government participation and tested equipment such as sirens, boats, and generators. The exercise simulated flooding, inundation, and landslides in geologically sensitive areas, including Parque Muísa, Jardim Gramacho, and Vila Urussaí, to ensure rapid response to potential heavy rainfall and power outages.
