Civil Engineers Chamber President calls for urgent safety regulations

Abdullah Ekinci, President of the Chamber of Civil Engineers (part of KTMMOB), has called on authorities to immediately implement regulations concerning public life and property safety. Ekinci specifically highlighted the Practitioner Membership Regulation, which has reportedly been stalled for over two years.

Ekinci stated that this regulation is designed to link the scale and risk level of engineering services with the experience and competence of the engineers performing them. He expressed concern that the regulation, which had reached the Council of Ministers after technical and legal evaluations, was withdrawn and sent back for political assessment.

In his critique, Ekinci questioned the government's commitment to public safety, suggesting that delaying scientific and technical processes in favor of political considerations undermines the protection of citizens against disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides. He further criticized the lack of accountability regarding recent crises in education, health, and transportation.
