Civil Protection activities launched in Trento and Messina
Civil protection initiatives have commenced in Trento and Messina to enhance emergency preparedness and public awareness.
In Trento, the “Civil Protection Week” features the establishment of a dedicated site at Parco delle Albere. Following a decennial revision of the municipal Civil Protection Plan, the city has released new educational materials. These include a brochure specifically addressing flood risks and emergency procedures for the Adige river, as well as a pop-art style map designed by artist Fulber to illustrate the flood areas from the 1966 disaster.
In Messina, the “Messina Risk Sis. Ma. 2026” exercise is underway as part of Safety Week. The drill simulates a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in the Strait to test the city’s prevention, preparation, and response capabilities. The exercise involves evacuation drills and procedural checks at schools, the University of Messina, municipal offices, and Italian Navy facilities. The simulation includes the activation of the Municipal Operations Center (COC) to coordinate emergency response protocols.
