Civil protection specialists issue guidance on emergency mobile alerts
Donatas Antanaitis, a senior specialist from the Civil Protection Division of the Fire and Rescue Department, has issued guidance on how citizens should respond to emergency mobile alerts.
Antanaitis warns against common mistakes, such as closing an alert before reading it entirely to silence the signal, or ignoring warnings under the assumption that they are merely tests or do not apply to the individual. He emphasizes that alerts contain specific instructions tailored to different threats, such as staying indoors or evacuating, and that residents should follow these official directions rather than seeking unverified information on social media.
Additionally, the specialist advises against calling the 112 emergency number simply to request more information, as this can congest lines needed for urgent assistance. He also notes the importance of assisting others who may not be able to hear or understand the alerts.
