Civil servants in defense sectors protest for improved rights in Ankara
Civil servants working for the Ministry of National Defense, Turkish Armed Forces, Gendarmerie General Command, and Coast Guard Command gathered in front of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) in Ankara to demand improved personal rights and better living conditions.
Tuncay Cengiz, General Secretary of the Civil Servants Confederation and President of the Civil Servants Union, stated that while their work is vital to the country's security and future, many employees are struggling with the cost of living. The protesters are seeking several specific reforms, including:
• The creation of a ‘Defense and Security Service Class’ under Article 36 of the Civil Servants Law No. 657. • Additional payments equivalent to 4,000 indicator points under the Turkish Armed Forces Personnel Law No. 926. • Compensation for those serving in critical and strategic provinces. • Improved social rights, increased housing opportunities, and better career development prospects.
