Civil society and business groups call for democratic strengthening in Germany

Various civil society organizations, initiatives, and individuals in Berlin have issued a joint statement calling for a city that prioritizes social cohesion and inclusivity. The group expressed concern over recent political developments, specifically citing the election of a far-right politician as state parliament president in Saxony-Anhalt as a warning sign for democratic stability.

In response to perceived threats to democracy and social equality, the statement urges political parties to address issues such as funding for antisemitism prevention, support for queer projects, and social welfare.

Simultaneously, business leaders and organizations like the CSR Magazin and Unternehmen Verantwortung Gesellschaft (UVG) are hosting initiatives to discuss how the private sector can support democratic values. These efforts come ahead of upcoming European Parliament and state elections in Saxony, Thuringia, and Brandenburg, aiming to counter the rise of right-wing populist influence through corporate engagement and community projects.
