Civita Castellana council debates €90,000 boost for Carnival foundation

Opposition councilors Claudio Parroccini, Simonetta Coletta and Giuseppe La Bella have filed a motion requesting the municipality to restore its contribution to the Carnival Civitonico foundation to €90,000 and to unlock the 5×1000 tax‑donation option. They argue the carnival is a historic cultural asset that draws thousands of visitors, supports local businesses and preserves community identity, and that rising costs for security, health services and logistics justify increased funding.

Critics from the local Rifondazione Comunista circle counter that the foundation carries a debt of roughly €130,000 accumulated under the previous administration. They contend that former officials who created and managed the foundation should be held responsible and that public funds should not be used to cover the shortfall. The critics call for a process to dissolve the foundation rather than shifting the burden onto citizens.
