Civitanova Marche hosts sailing therapy project for cancer survivors

The third edition of the ‘Giro di boa’ project is taking place in Civitanova Marche, utilizing sailing as a tool for physical and psychological support for women recovering from cancer. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Wonderful Sailing Team, the Anods associations (representing women who have undergone breast surgery) from Milan and Rome, and local organizations ‘Come Ginestre’ and ‘Le Orchidee’.

Supported by Coni Marche, the Municipality of Civitanova, and the Regional Order of Psychologists of Marche, the program includes 20 participants, 14 of whom have a history of oncology. The three-day event features free offshore sailing lessons, both theoretical and practical, led by federal instructors. The schedule includes a public meeting with doctors Lorena Verdecchia and Serena Peroni, concluding with a social sailing event on Sunday.

During the project presentation, Daniela Bossi, a breast surgeon and president of the Andos Milan committee, noted that there are approximately 54,000 breast cancer diagnoses annually in Italy, with about 1,300 cases occurring in the Marche region.
