Consiglio di Stato halts tree cutting in Reggio Emilia

The Italian Council of State has issued a ruling to halt further tree cutting in the Ospizio urban forest area in Reggio Emilia. This decision follows an appeal by citizens and Legambiente Reggio Emilia against the development of a new Conad shopping center on the site of a former nursing home.

While the ruling suspends further tree removal pending deeper investigation into environmental impact assessments, much of the original vegetation and shrubs have already been cleared by construction machinery. The court emphasized the need to preserve the existing situation and conduct a thorough review of the matter.

Other regional developments include the start of restoration work on Villa Blanc in Viareggio, intended to transform the historic residence into a private luxury estate by 2029. In Cervia, local opposition has risen against plans for 500 new apartments, with critics arguing that the focus should be on public housing rather than increasing the population to meet administrative thresholds.

In Livorno, local authorities have reached a compromise regarding a contested wall between a student art project and a proposed mural for football idol Igor Protti. Meanwhile, in Riccione, discussions continue regarding the preservation and enhancement of the Maria Boorman Ceccarini statue located on Viale Ceccarini.
