Civitavecchia offshore wind farm receives final environmental approval

The Tyrrhenian Wind Energy offshore wind farm project has received final approval for its Environmental Impact Assessment. Located off the coast of Civitavecchia and northern Lazio, the project represents a significant step for Italy’s energy transition.

The facility will consist of 28 floating turbines, each with a capacity of 18 megawatts, resulting in a total installed capacity of 504 megawatts. Positioned more than 22 kilometers from the coastline to minimize visual impact, the farm is expected to produce approximately 1.7 billion kWh of clean energy annually.

This production level is sufficient to meet the energy needs of over 500,000 families. Environmentally, the project is estimated to prevent the emission of 10 million tons of CO2 over the long term, contributing to the decarbonization of the region and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
