Turkish driver arrested after 231 kg marijuana seized at Civitavecchia

Italian customs and the Guardia di Finanza seized more than 231 kg of marijuana hidden in 34 cardboard boxes inside a truck that arrived at the port of Civitavecchia from a Spanish vessel. The cargo was detected by a high‑resolution scanner and confirmed by the drug‑sniffing dog “Ice”. The driver, a Turkish national, was taken into custody on charges of international drug trafficking, an offence that could generate profits of over one million euros. He was transferred to the Civitavecchia prison pending further investigation, with the presumption of innocence in force. The operation highlights the coordinated use of customs technology and law‑enforcement resources to disrupt narcotics routes through Italy’s major seaports.
