Civitavecchia social housing renovations face delays and funding risks
The Unione Inquilini Civitavecchia has raised alarms regarding the stalled renovation of six ATER social housing buildings on Via Baccelli. The projects, intended for seismic improvement, energy efficiency, and conservative restoration, remain unfinished despite being funded by approximately 15 million euros from the EU's PNRR program.
Local inspections conducted in early September revealed varying states of neglect: some buildings remain fenced off and deserted, while others appear partially completed but closed. The delays have left over 50 families displaced for nearly two years, forced into private rentals or other social housing, which the union claims increases costs for the agency and limits availability for the 700 families currently on waiting lists.
Critics are calling on the Lazio Region, the Court of Auditors, and the Municipality of Civitavecchia to intervene to prevent the loss of EU funding and resolve the social crisis caused by the delays.
