Civitavecchia to deploy environmental inspectors to combat waste issues

The municipality of Civitavecchia is launching a new initiative to combat urban decay and illegal waste disposal. Starting September 1, six environmental inspectors from CONGEAV will begin operations to strengthen local controls.

The inspectors will work in two teams for a total of 16 hours per week. One team will assist Civitavecchia Servizi Pubblici during door-to-door waste collection, while the second team will patrol streets and neighborhoods, ranging from the city center to the outskirts. The administration noted that inspections may include plainclothes monitoring and random checks.

Environmental Councilor Stefano Giannini and local police liaison Flavio Fustaino stated that the first month will focus on information, awareness, and warnings to educate citizens on correct disposal methods. The goal is to avoid an immediate escalation of sanctions, though the administration intends to implement stricter enforcement and penalties starting in October to ensure those who violate environmental rules are held accountable.
