Civitella Roveto and Pavullo host major Appennine mountain races on Aug 2
On Sunday, 2 August, Civitella Roveto in the Abruzzo region was the centre of the fourth edition of the Trail del Viglio, a 17.5‑km mountain race with about 750 m of elevation gain. Organized by Asd Monte Viglio and part of the Corrimarsica UISP circuit, the event started at 8:00 a.m. after bib collection at 7:00 a.m. and offered a four‑hour cut‑off. Registration was open until 1 August for €20, with a €25 on‑site fee. Refreshment points were placed every five kilometres and prizes included sports gear and local food products for the top three men and women, as well as category winners.
The same day, Pavullo nel Frignano hosted the finals of the 53rd Torneo della Montagna, a historic football competition in the Modenese Apennines. The finals at the G. Minelli municipal stadium featured youth matches in the Ragazzi 2012, Allievi 2010 and Under‑12 2014 categories, followed by the senior amateur final between Palagano and Pavullo. The edition saw the participation of an all‑female team (Pavullo FCF 2012) for the first time and a club from Reggio Emilia (Villa Minozzo). The winning amateur side received a trophy sculpted in 2023 by artist Dario Tazzioli.
