Turkey: Individual stories of life-saving aid, DIY repairs, and scam prevention

Several human-interest stories emerged from Turkey involving individual resilience and quick thinking. In Kahramanmaraş, Mustafa Özdemir decided to paint his 33-year-old car himself after being quoted 80,000 TL by local workshops. By purchasing his own materials, he completed the job for 10,000 TL.

In Antakya, market worker Ali Necip Güverçin saved a customer's life after a piece of jelly candy became lodged in the man's throat. Using the Heimlich maneuver, which Güverçin had learned through occupational health and driver's license training, he successfully cleared the airway. The incident was captured on security cameras.

In Kocaeli, Bahadır Bostan successfully thwarted an attempted vehicle sale scam. After being contacted by individuals claiming to use a ‘secure deposit system,’ Bostan realized the fraudulent nature of the request for 39,512 TL. He contacted the police and recorded the conversation to warn others about the scam.
