Cizre lemonade receives official geographical indication status

Cizre lemonade, a traditional beverage from the Cizre district of Şırnak, has officially received a geographical indication certificate from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. The certification, issued on May 20, 2025, under registration number 1742, recognizes the unique recipe and regional origin of the drink.

Distinguished from standard lemonades by the addition of natural milk and vanilla, the beverage is a staple during the region's long summer months. Local artisan Hacı Fettah Cavıldak, who has maintained the family tradition for 40 years, noted that the drink attracts both domestic and international tourists. To meet demand outside the region, the lemonade is shipped via cargo within Turkey or sold in frozen packages to international customers.
