CJ Logistics and South Korean carriers observe joint delivery driver holiday

CJ Logistics and other major South Korean logistics providers have designated August 14–15 as a joint industry holiday, allowing approximately 20,000 delivery drivers to rest simultaneously. This collective break, introduced in 2020 following government and industry consultations, aims to allow workers to rest without the pressure of accumulating work during individual vacations.

Due to the holiday, collection of short-term storage items, including fresh, refrigerated, and frozen foods, will be suspended starting August 13. Normal delivery services are expected to resume sequentially from August 16. While major players like Hanjin Transportation and Lotte Global Logistics will also observe the break, companies such as Coupang and Kurly will continue normal operations.

A survey of 4,763 CJ Logistics drivers showed 92.3% support for the collective holiday system. Drivers identified the primary benefits as spending time with family (45.5%) and recovering from heat-related fatigue during the peak summer season (37.2%).
