CJI Surya Kant honors Justice Sanjay Karol at farewell

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant paid tribute to Justice Sanjay Karol during a farewell ceremony at the Supreme Court Bar Association. CJI Kant praised Justice Karol for his commitment to nurturing young lawyers, noting that the judge frequently recognized the skill of junior advocates to their senior colleagues.

CJI Kant described Justice Karol as an ideal judge who prioritizes justice for the oppressed over legal technicalities. He highlighted Justice Karol’s ability to provide legal visibility to marginalized groups, including tribal women and individuals with mental illness.

Additionally, the Chief Justice noted Justice Karol’s administrative achievements, specifically citing his tenure as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, where he successfully reduced case pendency from over 60,000 to fewer than 27,000 within a ten-month period.
