Claims Conference Reports UK Holocaust Knowledge Gaps and Hosts Jerusalem Memory Conference

Gideon Taylor, president of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, announced the release of a United Kingdom Holocaust Knowledge and Awareness Survey on November 10, 2021. The survey found that 52 % of respondents did not know that six million Jews were murdered, 22 % believed two million or fewer were killed, 57 % think public concern for the Holocaust has declined, and 56 % fear a recurrence could happen today. Despite these gaps, 88 % said the Holocaust should continue to be taught in schools.

Around the same time, roughly 300 participants gathered in Jerusalem for a Claims Conference‑organized event titled “The Post‑Survivor era – Between Denial, Technology, and Historical Truth.” Speakers included Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Yad Vasem Chairman Dani Dayan, German Consul Nikola Petkovic, and Claims Conference Executive Vice President Greg Schneider. The conference addressed rising antisemitism, challenges from synthetic media, and the need to preserve Holocaust memory as survivors age, emphasizing collective responsibility to keep the Shoah’s lessons alive.
