Clan Issime textile factory to close in La Plata

Clan Issime, a historic textile and footwear manufacturer in La Plata, Argentina, is scheduled to close permanently on August 31. Founded in 1973, the family-owned business has operated for over 50 years and was once a significant regional employer.

The company’s workforce has seen a drastic decline, falling from a peak of 129 employees to just nine remaining staff members. Owners Jorge and Dolores Bizet, along with their son Martín, stated that the closure is driven by a combination of economic crisis, fiscal obligations, and intense competition from imported goods.

Jorge Bizet noted that the inability to meet tax obligations due to low sales led to seizures, and emphasized that competing with low-cost imports sold online is impossible under current conditions. The company plans to auction its machinery and remaining stock to settle outstanding debts and pay the final remaining employees.
