Angela Davis receives Keys to Mexico City from Mayor Clara Brugada

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada presented the Keys to the City to American philosopher and activist Angela Davis in a ceremony held at the Palacio del Ayuntamiento. Brugada honored Davis as a “living symbol of struggle, revolutionary thought, and resistance,” recognizing her lifelong work against racism, patriarchy, capitalism, and the prison system.

During the event, Brugada condemned the resurgence of institutional racism in the United States and expressed solidarity with migrants. She characterized current political trends as a rise in “cavernous right-wing” movements that threaten established social rights.

Beatriz Mojica Morga, a Morena official, also attended, noting that Davis represents the voices of those historically unheard. Davis expressed her gratitude, stating that the visit to Mexico City inspired her and noting that the leadership of women is essential for changing the world for everyone, regardless of gender.
