Clare Chu appointed Cathedral City poet laureate

Cathedral City has named author, curator, and arts scholar Clare Chu as its inaugural poet laureate. The honorary, volunteer position carries a two-year tenure intended to promote literary arts, cultural identity, and community engagement.

Chu, who has authored 12 books and several academic articles on Asian art, will lead various initiatives including community poetry workshops, seasonal readings, cultural events, and a youth poetry project. Her first public appearance is scheduled for the city’s 10th annual Halloween Spooktacular event this Sunday.
