Claremont Colleges receive mixed academic and free speech rankings
The Claremont Colleges have received varying evaluations in recent academic and civil liberties reports. According to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) 2027 Free Speech Rankings, Claremont McKenna College secured second place, though it was surpassed by the University of Chicago. Despite the drop in rank, Claremont McKenna improved its overall score to 80.1 and remains highly rated for administrative support and comfort in expressing ideas.
In contrast, Pomona College ranked 226th out of 261 schools in the FIRE report. However, other major publications have provided high marks for the institutions. Time magazine and The Princeton Review recently recognized several Claremont Colleges among the top undergraduate institutions in the United States. Harvey Mudd College ranked third out of 500 schools by Time, while Claremont McKenna ranked ninth. Pomona College was also noted for its environmental responsibility, appearing among the top 388 ‘green colleges’ in the country.
