Claremont woman assaulted in home invasion

A 70-year-old woman is recovering after being sexually assaulted inside her home in Claremont, Western Australia, over the weekend. According to WA Police, the attack occurred on Saturday around 1:30pm as the victim was returning from grocery shopping.

A 35-year-old man allegedly followed the woman into her residence, where he physically restrained her and committed the assault. The suspect, who had been released from Hakea Prison only days prior and was residing in a neighboring unit, was interrupted when a housemate from his unit heard screams and intervened.

The man has been charged with aggravated sexual penetration without consent, aggravated burglary, and impeding another person’s breath. He was denied bail in court.
