Clark County Commission District F election features three main candidates

An open-seat election for District F of the Clark County Commission is set to take place this November. The seat, currently held by Democrat Justin Jones, will be vacant as he has decided not to seek reelection.

The Clark County Commission manages an $11 billion budget and oversees more than 10,000 employees, impacting approximately 2.5 million residents. The commission's decisions cover critical areas such as zoning, public safety, transportation, and the state's gaming industry.

Three primary candidates are competing for the position:

• Heidi Kasama: A Republican Assemblywoman from Las Vegas who focuses on cutting government red tape. • Becky Harris: A former state senator and former chair of the Nevada Gaming Control Board, running as a nonpartisan candidate. • Minja Yan: A progressive Democrat who emerged as a surprise winner in the primary.

The outcome could shift the political balance of the commission, which is currently largely Democratic. A victory for Kasama would bring a second Republican to the body, while a win for Harris would introduce its first nonpartisan member.
