Claro Dominicana confirms unauthorized exposure of customer data
Claro Dominicana has confirmed an unauthorized exposure of personal data affecting a group of individual mobile customers. The company reported that the compromised information includes mobile phone numbers, national identification numbers (cédulas), and the types of services contracted.
Claro stated that the exposed data does not provide direct access to customer accounts, allow for financial transactions, or reveal the content of communications. However, authorities warn that such information could be used for identity theft, social engineering, or phishing scams.
The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) is coordinating an investigation alongside the National Cybersecurity Center (CNCS) to determine the full scope of the breach and identify those responsible. INDOTEL has advised users to remain vigilant against unexpected communications requesting personal or financial information.
Some reports have suggested the breach could involve millions of users and include more sensitive details like SIM card identifiers and billing cycles, though the company has focused its official communications on the specific categories of mobile numbers and identification data.
