Clas-SiC Wafer Fab receives £1.9m grant for semiconductor expansion

Clas-SiC Wafer Fab, a semiconductor manufacturer based in Lochgelly, has been awarded a £1.9 million government grant from Scottish Enterprise. This funding is part of a larger £12 million investment by the company to expand its operations and upgrade technology and equipment.

The investment aims to meet rising global demand for silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductors, which are essential components in electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. The expansion will also include new training for production staff and apprentices to support the company's growth.

Clas-SiC is a key part of Scotland’s Critical Technologies supercluster, an ecosystem that currently generates £4.5 billion in annual turnover and employs over 11,000 people. The Scottish Government aims to grow this sector to £10 billion and add 6,600 jobs by 2035.
