Classical music performances in Madrid and Salzburg
In Madrid, pianist Beatrice Rana performed works by Bach, Debussy, and Chopin as part of the Fundación Scherzo Grandes Intérpretes cycle at the Auditorio Nacional. Rana demonstrated significant technical skill and intense expressivity, particularly in her interpretation of Bach’s French Suite No. 2 in C minor, BWV 813, utilizing continuous pedal changes and distinct phrasing.
In Salzburg, the Mozarteumorchester, led by chief conductor Roberto González-Monjas, performed Mahler’s Third Symphony at the Großen Festspielhaus. The performance featured the Salzburg Festival and Theater Children's Choir, the Bachchor ladies, and contralto Okka von der Damerau. The production utilized nine horns for the opening fanfare and emphasized the work's complex structural and thematic elements.
