Classical Swine Fever outbreaks reported in Ehime and Gunma prefectures

Classical Swine Fever (CSF) has been confirmed at pig farms in both Ehime and Gunma prefectures.

In Ozu, Ehime Prefecture, authorities completed the culling of 2,267 pigs as of the morning of October 10. The culling targeted pigs that were either unvaccinated or had been vaccinated for too short a period. Out of approximately 4,000 pigs at the facility, burial and disinfection processes are ongoing, and any piglets born before quarantine measures are completed will also be subject to culling. This marks the first confirmed case in Ehime since 2024.

In Shibukawa, Gunma Prefecture, CSF was confirmed at a facility housing approximately 2,800 pigs. Following reports of increasing symptoms on October 9, national testing confirmed the infection. Gunma Prefecture plans to implement selective culling, targeting unvaccinated pigs and those vaccinated for less than 20 days. This marks the third instance of selective culling in Japan following the May amendment to the Act on Prevention of Infectious Diseases in Livestock.
