Clatsop County officials rule Seaside fatal shooting justified
A final report from the Clatsop County District Attorney’s Office has concluded that law enforcement officers were justified in the fatal shooting of Hayes McCloud in Seaside, Oregon, in early July.
McCloud, 24, was wanted for two homicides in Washington state. During a high-risk traffic stop, McCloud reportedly fired a weapon through a vehicle window at officers. After a pursuit, McCloud’s vehicle crashed, and he was found dead from a gunshot wound to the chest with a rifle nearby. Cannon Beach Police Officer James Jordan and Gearhart Police Officer Jeremiah Mares were placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
