OpenAI, Google, Tencent and Anthropic launch new AI desktop agents

OpenAI expanded its professional suite on 9 July 2026 with the GPT‑5.6 model family (Sol, Terra, Luna) and introduced a ChatGPT‑Work‑Desktop app that accesses local files and integrates with Slack and Gmail. The company also replaced its Atlas browser with built‑in autonomous browsing capabilities, allowing the AI to navigate sites, log into accounts and download files.

On the same day, Tencent released its “WorkBuddy” desktop agent powered by the Hunyuan‑Hy3 model, focusing on file‑workflow automation and offering WeChat‑based remote file access through the ClawBot tool. Both offerings are part of a broader wave of “agent‑native” software aimed at automating complex business processes on desktops, browsers and mobile devices. Other firms, such as Notion and National Instruments, announced AI‑driven product‑development cycles and engineering‑test tools that rely on the same underlying large‑language‑model technology.
