Claude Code and Codex optimization via APM and context management

Developers are utilizing new methods to optimize the use of AI coding agents like Claude Code and Codex. Microsoft’s Agent Package Manager (APM) provides a centralized way to manage configurations, skills, and agent definitions. By using an apm.yml file, developers can automatically deploy settings to different tools, ensuring consistency across different environments and reducing the manual effort of maintaining duplicate configuration files.

Additionally, users are finding ways to manage the context window in Claude Code to prevent rapid consumption of usage limits. Rather than instructing the AI to read an entire project at once—which inflates token usage and costs—effective strategies include using search commands like grep to locate specific functions first. This targeted approach allows the agent to read only the necessary files, significantly reducing the context size and preserving usage quotas without sacrificing answer quality.
