Claude Code gains developer preference for autonomous coding

Claude Code is gaining significant traction among software developers as an autonomous coding tool. Recent reports highlight the effectiveness of its “/goal” command, which allows the AI to operate more independently. By treating a prompt as a mandatory objective, the tool can autonomously continue working and self-evaluate its progress until the specified goal is met, reducing the need for constant human intervention and back-and-forth prompting.

In a survey of developers, approximately 75% expressed a preference for Claude Code over OpenAI Codex. Users, including engineers at companies like Meta, report that the tool integrates naturally into development workflows, acting more like a colleague that can assist with brainstorming, planning, and implementation. While Codex remains in use by some, Claude Code is noted for its ability to improve productivity by allowing developers to focus on higher-level business problems while the AI handles the execution of specific coding tasks.
