Claude connectors enable AI integration with external applications
Claude connectors allow the AI assistant to interact with external applications such as Gmail, Slack, Notion, and HubSpot by reading data and performing actions. These connectors are built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard designed to link AI assistants to outside tools via MCP servers.
Users can access connectors through a directory or by adding custom MCP servers via a URL. When using directory connectors, users can browse, select, and sign in to specific apps through the Customize menu. Claude’s access is limited to the permissions already granted to the user’s own account; if a user cannot access a specific file or record, the AI cannot reach it either.
Commonly used integrations include Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. For instance, the Google Drive connector enables Claude to search and read various file types, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and Office files, and can perform supported file changes. Users can manage these connections on Claude, Claude Desktop, and mobile apps, with the ability to toggle specific services on or off for individual chats.
