Claude Giroux signs one-year deal to stay with Ottawa Senators

Veteran forward Claude Giroux, 38, has agreed to a one‑year contract to remain with the Ottawa Senators. The deal includes a US$2 million base salary and performance bonuses that could raise total earnings to as much as US$5 million, with specific payouts for reaching 10 games, 40 games, conference‑finals and a Stanley Cup appearance. Giroux posted 14 goals and 35 assists (49 points) in 82 games last season and led the league with a 63.1% face‑off win rate. He has been with Ottawa since the summer of 2022, helping the team break a long playoff drought and secure back‑to‑back postseason berths. Rumors of a return to the Philadelphia Flyers were dismissed, and Giroux said, “I chose to come back because I want to be here. I’m excited to be an Ottawa Senator.” General manager Steve Staios praised his commitment, noting Giroux’s veteran leadership as valuable for the club’s next phase, which may be his final NHL season.
